Following a strict skincare routine has been highly beneficial for me, but has also made me neglect my hair. I stopped straightening my hair for four months and have either been air-drying or diffusing my hair. Though, just because I don’t use straighteners doesn’t mean that my hair is 100% healthy.
I try my best to keep my hair healthy by oiling it once or twice a week with olive oil. I do think that using a diffuser, leave in products and even detangling my hair may have damaged it a little. The last time I went for a hair treatment was in April. Back then my hair was even more damaged because I straightened it quite often and my highlights were still fairly new. I recently decided that it’s time that I treat my mane. Six months is a very long time go without a treatment anyway. So, I went on a Lush haul. Of course most of the products and samples I got were skincare products but I did manage to buy a hot oil hair treatment.
The Product
I was drawn to the presentation of the product. It reminded me of ice-cream. A sweet Lush employee explained each treatment to me and recommended the Damaged Hot Oil Treatment for dry and damaged hair.
The main ingredients of the product are:
- Extra virgin olive oil (my favourite oil)
- Organic avocado oil
- Almond oil
- Vanilla
The Good Stuff
The instructions on the stick was quite clear and easy for anyone to follow. Once I placed the solid in hot water I could immediately smell the vanilla and olive scents. After 5 minutes the treatment was melted and ready for use.
I applied it to my hair and left it on for 20 minutes. Afterwards, I rinsed the treatment out, and then shampoo and condition my hair as usual. I had no problem detangling my hair like I normally do.
I think that the treatment either detangled my hair or made it softer which made detangling much easier. After diffusing my hair for 20 minutes I finally saw the results! My hair looked shinier and healthier. My curls were definitely more defined and bouncy. There was barely any frizz and my highlights also looked lighter.
To Be Honest…
I had no problem with this product. I liked everything about it, from its nakedness (no packaging) to the actual product itself.
Do I Still Use It?
I did end up melting more than I needed for a single use which worried me a little. So, I checked the Lush webpage and they state that you can store the remaining treatment in a container and use it up to four weeks. I stored mine in a container once it cooled off. I am now in my second week of using this magical treatment.
Get Some
I highly recommend the Damaged Hot Oil Treatment if you have dry or damaged hair, or if you just want your hair to be more nourished. From what I’ve seen so far I can safely say that this is treatment is curl friendly!
