Honest Review: The Ordinary Skincare for Sensitive and Dry Skin

The skincare game is changing. More people are putting their skincare first before makeup. After a decade of makeup being at the forefront of the beauty industry, I am glad to see skincare finally taking over.

As more consumers become more conscious about the ingredients in their skincare products thanks to the leading skincare influencers and specialists, brands are producing better options for different skin types.

There is one cruelty-free brand who we have to give our credits to and that is The Ordinary. The brand that became a must-have for everyone. I can’t think of anyone who doesn’t have at least one product from The Ordinary in their skincare routine.

For months  I used a range of The Ordinary products for sensitive and dry skin. The results were far from what I expected…in a good way.

The Products

I received a box full of The Ordinary products for sensitive and dry skin types. The products include:

  • Squalane Cleanser
  • Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Serum
  • Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Serum
  • 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Borage Seed Oil
  • Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA

Cleanser

The Squalane Cleanser can be used in the day and night as a primary cleanser or part of a double cleansing routine. This cleanser contains soothing ingredients such as plant-based squalane and glycerin which gently cleanse the skin without stripping away natural oils. It also removes makeup, so it would make for a great first cleanse as part of a double cleansing routine.

Treatments – Serums and Oils

It is essential for people with sensitive skin to have very basic skincare routines with very little active ingredients. The serums and oil I use are considered to be the best for sensitive and dry skin by The Ordinary. I only applied these serums at night as my skin tends to get very dry while I sleep.

The first serum that I used is the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Serum. I was most excited to try this serum because of the rave it got. I had followers, friends and relatives all begging me to try this serum because they loved it. After my first week of testing this serum I could clearly see why it is so hyped. Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Serum is a moisturising water-based serum suitable for dry skin. It mimics the skins reproduction of moisture which is normally lower in dry skin. After a week my skin already felt hydrated, softer and looked healthy.

The next serum I use is the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Serum. This serum is great for scars and problem areas. If you want to know more about this serum you can read Mbali’s full honest review.

After applying the water-based serums I apply the facial oil. I prefer to use lightweight facial oils at night as my skin tends to get really dry and tight overnight. This 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Borage Seed Oil is one of the best facial oils I have ever used. It is formulated for sensitive skin to soothe any irritation and redness on the skin. The earthy scent is also highly addictive.

Moisturiser

The last step in this skincare routine is the very simple Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA. I love this moisturiser. Its simple and minimal ingredient list including fatty acids and hyaluronic acid makes it the best moisturiser for and dry sensitive skin. I applied this Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA at the end just to lock in all of my products.

Do I Still Use It?

I still use all of the products except for the 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Borage Seed Oil. It’s currently the middle of summer in Western Australia so my skin isn’t dry or flaky. However, I will definitely add it back to my routine once winter comes around. I do double cleanse these days. I use the Squalane Cleanser as a first cleanse to remove makeup and SPF at night. As hydrating as it is, it can be a little too much in the summer so I prefer using another water based cleanser in combination with the Squalene Cleanser.

Where Can You Find The Ordinary Products?

You can find these products from the Deciem , Adore Beauty, Beauty Bay and Cult Beauty.

If you are in Australia you can find a range of The Ordinary products at Priceline and Myers stores.
